The historical corner plot that the Avenue Library and Learning Centre sits on has always attracted culture seekers. Generations of Blackley cinema-goers were entertained here, when it was home to the Victoria Avenue Cinema, through the 1930s to the 1970s.

In 1985 the cinema was demolished to make room for this ultra modern library and learning centre, which opened in 2012. Now, many still visit for films (though on DVD) and to enjoy full library facilities, free-wifi and use of the PCs.

You’ll also find leisure classes and meeting rooms on-site; with regular sessions for preschoolers, a year-round health and wellbeing programme and family support groups.

The Learning Centre offers an invaluable service to the Blackley community, providing local residents with a wide range of employment and training opportunities, careers advice and qualifications. Who said you can’t mix business with pleasure?
