Christmas in Manchester

Christmas in Manchester is one of the most magical times of the year. The streets sparkle, the markets buzz, and the whole city feels full of festive cheer.

From the busy high street to our brilliant independent traders, visitors come from far and wide to soak up the atmosphere. The European-style Christmas Markets pop up across the city, pantomimes take over the stages, and everything feels ready for the big day.

This year brings something extra special. The much-loved wooden Christmas Market chalets return to Albert Square for the first time in six years – along with a festive fairground and big wheel outside the Town Hall. You can also explore the Christmas Markets dotted across the city and glide across Skate Manchester’s covered ice rink at Cathedral Gardens (open until 4 January). Plus, don’t miss the Christmas Parade on Sunday 7 December.

There are plenty of community events happening all month too, with fun for all ages.

And if you need a breather from the festive buzz, wrap up warm and wander one of Manchester’s many parks and green spaces for some well-earned calm.
