International Anthony Burgess Foundation (IABF)

Outside on an old red brick building

Packed with character and history, head to the International Anthony Burgess Foundation at Chorlton Mill to find out more about the life and work of Anthony Burgess.

Best known for his hugely influential work, A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess was a prolific author, playwright, poet, critic, linguist and composer. One of Manchester’s most celebrated cultural figures, Burgess penned 33 novels, 25 non-fiction works and two volumes of autobiography as well as hundreds of musical works and copious amounts of journalism.

Housed in one of the oldest mills in Manchester, the centre boasts a substantial library, archive and study centre dedicated to Burgess’ books, papers and music, as well as a unique exhibition space and performance venue (The Engine House). Brimming with character, The Engine House hosts brilliant exhibitions, workshops and performances. There’s also a bookshop, where you can discover the works of Anthony Burgess, and a cool cafe bar serving drinks and honest home-made food.
