Royal Exchange Theatre

An audience watch a play in a theatre
Royal Exchange Theatre

The Royal Exchange is an award-winning theatre set in one of the most beautiful buildings in Manchester. One of the most celebrated theatres in the country, the theatre stages new plays as well as modern versions of the classics.

The historic building, once the world’s biggest cotton exchange, became a theatre company in 1976. The Royal Exchange is well-known for its theatre-in-the-round – the stage is positioned in the centre with the audience seated around it. The theatre is also home to a smaller studio space, the Theatre Shop and The Rivals Bar and Restaurant.

Bringing world-class performances and events that everyone can take part in, the theatre places audiences and community at the heart of everything they do.

With an award-winning Young Company, Elder’s Company, drop-in sessions for children aged 5-13 years and an artist development programme, the Royal Exchange has plenty of opportunities for people of all ages.
