Manchester Histories are launching a series of weekly heritage craft workshops. There will be a different creative activity to try each week, including sketching, singing and weaving. There will also be the opportunity to share your stories and experiences.
Sessions are as follows:
Tuesday 18 March — Model City
Discover about post-war town planning and the role of models to represent ideas. Design your own community using simple building blocks.
Tuesday 25 March — Group Draw
This session encourages you to take part and work together to create a large drawing inspired by your own skills and interests.
Tuesday 1 April — Hand-made
This session invites you to reflect and share what you have made before or would like to create in the future. A good opportunity to share your hobbies and interests with the group.
Tuesday 8 April — People in our World
During this activity, participants are encouraged to look at the people in their world and appreciate those who go unnoticed. You can use this inspiration to explore who matters to you in your community.
Tuesday 15 April — Sketching your Surroundings
In this session, you’ll explore the different skills involved in making textiles and the work of Burnley-based maker, Sam Hanna. You’ll look into the tradition of handloom weaving too.
Tuesday 22 April — Making your Mark
This activity looks at history and how we record it. You will look at the different ways archives are collected and how you would make your mark on how today is recorded.
Tuesday 29th April — Storytelling
During this session, you’ll explore the tradition of storytelling and hear about Lancashire’s magical creatures: the Boggarts.
Tuesday 6 May — Sing it!
Learn about Manchester songs recorded in the twentieth century, and songs recalled by migrants to the city. Share and remember old songs or nursery rhymes as a group.
