The Police Museum

Tucked away within the Northern Quarter, amongst some of the cool cafes and bars, you’ll find Greater Manchester Police Museum. One of Manchester’s earliest police stations, the historic building has been lovingly restored so that visitors can experience what life was like in a busy Victorian police station.

Discover the original Victorian cells and see where Manchester’s criminals were charged and fingerprinted. Experience an 1895 Magistrates Courtroom and then check out some of the equipment and police cars on display. The museum’s volunteers, who are mainly retired police officers, are always on hand to answer any questions.

Greater Manchester Police Museum is open every Tuesday for drop-in visits, and then every Tuesday and Thursday during the school holidays. Visits on other days are by appointment only. Make sure you’re on your best behaviour for a free and interesting day out.
